The Picnic Basket is our bustling beachfront cafe located near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. We are fast paced, and dedicated to simple, delicious food and treats, sourced from local farmers, foragers and food artisans. Our offerings are handcrafted with love and made fresh every day with real ingredients.
The Cafe and Market Manager Position:
The Glass Jar, Inc. is looking for a hands-on, passionate, and dynamic Cafe and Market Manager who is a skilled leader and thinker, capable of independently operating The Picnic Basket with support from the Senior Management team.
The Cafe and Market Manager actively directs their team in defining, managing, coordinating, and setting the standard for all sales, service and operations. The Cafe and Market Manager is available on a consistent and reliable basis and is comfortable taking full responsibility for all Picnic Basket operational and staffing needs as they arise. This hands-on position upholds and models our high standards of excellence in both product and service.
The Cafe and Market Manager works closely with Senior Management to achieve business objectives at the restaurant level by implementing strategy through skillful execution and effective leadership. A strong sense of ownership is required to succeed in this role, as well as the ability to build and nurture vital relationships with team members, vendors, patrons and the surrounding community.
The Picnic Basket is locally owned and operated by The Glass Jar, Inc., a farm-to-table restaurant family founded and based in Santa Cruz, CA. The Glass Jar is the management company for The Penny Ice Creamery, The Picnic Basket, and various community events.

This foundation allows us room to consistently reflect and explore how to improve and optimize.
Business hours of operation:
During the fall, winter and spring seasons hours are generally in the 7:00AM - 4:00PM range. Summer hours extend into the evening with closing times around 9:00PM. Hours may be strategically adjusted depending on area events (for example marathons and triathlons with early start times may prompt earlier business opening times).
Requirements Include:
Desire to work successfully in a fast paced, high-volume, and hands-on environment.
Managerial experience in a food service establishment.
Ability to work 40+ hours a week consistently. Able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Scheduling requirements reflect the consistent needs of the business.
Ability to prioritize, while being detail-oriented.
Ability to lead, support, direct, and collaboratively build the Picnic Basket team.
An interest in managing shops that strive to be a nexus for community and local, sustainable food.
An interest or current participation in the local food movement.
