Job Description

The Camp Photographer is responsible for capturing all of the various aspects of a Camp Chewonki experience. This position requires a self-motivated, energetic individual with proven photography skills, excellent time management skills, and a willingness to work with a team. The Camp Photographer reports to the Program Head and works in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communication. This person will create and maintain a rich and complete photo library of the camp experience that provides parents with visual updates of their child’s summer and promotional material for marketing and recruiting purposes. The Camp Photographer is expected to live on campus for the duration of the camp season, participate fully in the camp community, and should have a passion for working with kids.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Complete daily photography assignments around camp and on occasional day trips off-site (~4-6 hours per day).
  • Curate Camp Chewonki Meta Business postings (facebook and instagram) under guidance from Camp Director.
  • Edit photo sets and upload curated photos sets to Chewonki storage sites.
  • Ad-hoc support to other camp activities as needed after primary photography assignments are done for the day (assigned by the program director).
  • Rotating assignments to help with support staff duties (i.e. - table setting in the dining hall). 
  • Practice professional presentation and communication with participants and their families, co-workers, and the public.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, i.e. incident reports, camper reports, trip reports.
  • Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp.
  • Community Responsibilities:
    • Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and a lens of anti-racism in the best interest of participants, constituents, and staff across the organization.
    • A willingness to work as a team member among the Camp Program and the greater Chewonki community.
    • Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community. 
    • Contribute to and collaborate with the Chewonki community through committees and foundation wide events.
    • Share the collective responsibility within risk management (physical, behavioral, institutional, etc.) by:
  • Using sound judgment
  • Operating within your skill set and Chewonki protocols
  • Responding to and/ or alerting the appropriate person(s) when you see something that may compromise safety
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must complete fingerprinting requirements/pass criminal background check.
  • 2+ years of experience with outdoor/adventure photography required.
  • Experienced with Google Suite (Drive, Photos, Docs, Sheets).
  • Experienced with photo editing software (Photoshop, Lightbox or similar).
  • Technical photography skills, including editing and publishing.
  • Interpersonal and collaborative approach to work with a co-photographer.
  • Ability to be self-directed and manage your own work schedule.
  • Risk Management minded.
  • Attend required onboarding and training sessions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lb at a time.
  • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
  • Able to maintain attention and a high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.

Special Benefits

Starting Salary: $3000, increases based on prior experience
