The Position
Our client in BC is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will provide sound, progressive, and engaging leadership while contributing to the effective corporate management of the organization. The CFO will oversee financial planning, reporting, budgeting, risk management, and compliance, ensuring alignment with the company's values, traditions, and long-term goals.

The Candidate
Provide strategic financial leadership, advice, and reporting to the CEO.
Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and investment strategies.
Manage accounting, audit, payroll, and financial reporting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), and funding agreements.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding agreements, and reporting requirements (e.g., Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations Financial Transparency Act, CRA).
Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard Nation assets.
Support economic development initiatives and evaluate business opportunities for financial viability.
Lead and mentor the Finance Department team to ensure capacity development, efficiency, and accountability.
Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate financial strategies with the Nation’s cultural values, priorities, and strategic plan.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Professional accounting designation (CPA) strongly preferred; equivalent senior-level finance experience may be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree an asset).
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in Indigenous government, public sector, or non-profit organizations.
Strong knowledge of PSAS, government funding frameworks, and financial reporting requirements for First Nations.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational and cultural priorities.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and team development skills.
High level of integrity, accountability, and respect for Indigenous traditions and values.
