Our client, a well-known restaurant and hospitality group with multiple locations across North County San Diego, is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Generalist to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys a hands-on, people-focused environment and is passionate about creating positive work cultures within fast-paced hospitality settings.
The HR Generalist will act as a trusted partner to managers and staff, supporting a variety of functions such as employee relations, recruitment, compliance, training, and benefits. You'll be working closely with leadership to strengthen HR processes and employee engagement across the company's restaurants and administrative offices.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Serve as the primary HR contact for multiple restaurant locations, providing guidance on employee relations, compliance, and performance management.
+ Support full-cycle recruitment including job postings, resume screening, interviews, reference checks, and onboarding.
+ Conduct new hire orientations and ensure a seamless introduction to company culture, values, and compliance expectations.
+ Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including California-specific wage and hour regulations.
+ Partner with management on coaching, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
+ Oversee benefits administration, including open enrollment, new hire enrollments, and changes.
+ Manage timekeeping, payroll processing support, and scheduling oversight to ensure labor law compliance.
+ Collaborate with leadership on engagement initiatives, retention programs, and team development opportunities.
+ Track employee performance reviews, training progress, and certification renewals.
+ Handle workers' compensation claims, leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA), and other sensitive employee matters with professionalism.
+ Prepare HR reports, maintain accurate personnel records, and assist with audits as needed.
Requirements
+ 3-5 years of experience as an HR Generalist or HR Coordinator in hospitality, restaurant, or retail industries.
+ Strong working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices.
+ Ability to multitask effectively in a high-volume, multi-location environment.
+ Experience with HRIS systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Paylocity, or BambooHR.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
+ High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust with employees at all levels.
+ Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
+ HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Schedule:
+ Full-time, onsite role based in Encinitas, CA with occasional travel to local restaurant locations.
+ Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend or evening work for team events or trainings.
