Job Description

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree required and must be in related Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in developing and   executing communication strategies that support organizational public relations and communications.
  • The Public Relations Communications Specialists shall develop and distribute communications, including both traditional media and digital platforms.
  • Manage media relations with various stakeholders.
  • Formulate public relations strategies that align with organizational goals to improve brand awareness across multiple audiences.
  • May assist in developing crisis communication strategies to address negative situations and protect the organization's reputation.
  • The Public Relations Communications Specialist should be multi-disciplined and able to cover multiple major functions and have availability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing, strategic communications, media relations, crisis management, event planning, digital and social media.
  • Proven expertise in developing messaging, digital communication material, working with media, and coordinating events.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling content, secure high-profile interviews, and consistently perform under tight deadlines, covering a diverse range of topics (e.g., news, health, policy, science). Excellent storytelling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Must be able to work in Washington DC and/or Silver Spring, MD
