What you'll do: This position is the lead writer for NWEA-focused content within the HMH marketing team. A major aspect of the overall HMH K-12 marketing strategy is to generate inbound demand for the HMH's core curriculum, supplemental, intervention, assessment, and professional learning businesses. This requires developing a steady stream of rich, meaningful content marketing, which can include blog posts, videos, podcast episodes, research white papers, e-books, and any content able to serve educators and promote HMH. The content marketing team additionally helps to support copywriting needs across the larger marketing organization, which can include writing and editing emails, webpages, brochures, digital product sample experiences, and product taglines. The senior content writer is able to help with both of these companywide needs—content marketing development and copywriting support. The role requires not only writing copy, but also helping to manage bigger-picture campaign work that may span products or lines of business. The role requires frequent collaboration with stakeholders both in and outside the company. Working in the larger Brand and Creative Marketing team, the Senior Content Writer will be responsible for the following primary duties: Develop blog posts and “gated” content that is repeatedly promoted across blog posts in support of K-12 campaigns that consider audience, customer, and message; includes frequent copywriting, along with contributing to planning/brainstorming sessions, performing market research, and collaborating with design and other stakeholders as needed. Develops high-profile web content and has oversight of web copy written by colleagues and/or contractos to maintain consistency of voice and tone. Writes original journalistic articles that require research and interviews from multiple sources. Cultivates relationships with thought leaders, customers, and other sources for interviews. Manages relationships with authors and bloggers to produce content—and serves as both editor and proofreader. Follows editorial style guide and upholds editorial standards. Serves as editor for colleagues within the content marketing team and provides guidance when needed. Collaborates with the SEO director, the social media, product marketing and corporate communications teams to ensure that copy complements and meets marketing goals. Coordinates with the SEO team and greater content marketing team on all SEO keyword needs. Manages content within the CMS. Collaborates effectively with design and other stakeholders to make content publication-ready. Coordinates with account managers and designers within the brand and creative marketing teams to ensure alignment on process, timeline, and look and feel. Pulls blog and newsletter metrics to track KPIs and use results for future planning. What you'll need : Bachelors degree or higher. 3+ years in content strategy and development; a journalism, editorial, marketing, education, or communications background strongly preferred. Experience in education. (classroom teaching experience preferred) Experience marketing B2B solutions. (education publishing industry preferred) High attention to detail. Experience working in a CMS. Knowledge of Google Analytics and/or Salesforce a plus. Superb communication, writing & presentation skills. Strong knowledge of SEO writing and tagging. Self-starter and creative thinker able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Deep understanding of content channels, as well as their associated audiences and platform limitations. Well versed in all content types including, but not limited to: long-form content marketing pieces such as eBooks and blogs, web copy, podcasts, videos, and visual storytelling through graphics and photos.
