Position Description:

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the clinical lab including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Specimen Processing. Will actively engage entire laboratory staff. Will be responsible for optimizing the workflow from collection to verification using appropriate metrics to maximize the departmental operations efficiencies. Manager will collaborate with department leads, Pathologist, and other known experts and regulatory authorities on such technical issues. Provide guidance to the clinical laboratory departments and medical director.

Duties:

  • Assist in both short and long range laboratory plans that are consistent with the mission, vision, strategic and business plans.
  • Will plan, coordinate, and take lead(including Medical Director and Clinical Laboratory) on integrating functions throughout all shifts, including scheduling, monitoring, data collection, data presentation, and the implementation of approved new initiatives.
  • Assists director, clinical laboratory, and other department leaders within the laboratory in the assurance of compliance with all state, federal, and any other applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coordinates and allocates activities to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Assist in assurance and maintenance of all hospital and lab safety regulations, including the coordination of updating and communicating this information with the department.
  • Conduct candidate interviews, orientation, competencies, and education sessions as needed and maintains the documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Qualifications

Requirements:          

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related field of study required. Master’s degree preferred. Advanced management degrees or courses are highly preferred.
  • At least 5 years experience as a Medical Technologist and 2 years of supervisory experience required.  Experience must include escalating levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to manage staff in achievement of department goals. Investigative and problem solving skills. Have a strong understanding of the workflow of the Clinical Laboratory. 
  • Registration by ASCP or equivalent Board of Registry preferred.
