The Metals and Recycling Market Segment Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive market growth and revenue in the metals sector for the company. This role will involve a combination of market analysis, customer relationship management, product positioning, and sales strategy development and execution to enhance the company's presence within the metals industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the metals market, customer needs, and manufacturing processes, along with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Strategy and Planning:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive market strategies tailored to the metals segment, aligning with company goals and objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to identify trends, customer needs, competitive landscape, and growth opportunities within the metals industry.
  • Set clear, measurable goals for market penetration, customer acquisition, and revenue generation within the metals sector.
  • Collaborate with senior management to define product offerings, pricing strategies, and promotional activities specific to the metals market.
  • Customer Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, stakeholders, and industry influencers in the metals sector.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers within the metals market, understanding their needs and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with the sales team to identify customer pain points and provide tailored solutions to enhance customer loyalty and retention.
  • Manage key accounts and negotiate contracts, ensuring that terms and conditions align with company objectives and market requirements.
  • Sales & Revenue Growth:
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to drive growth in the metals segment, focusing on both new business development and existing customer growth.
  • Work closely with the sales team to identify leads, develop proposals, and close sales with customers in the metals industry.
  • Monitor sales performance against targets and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with marketing to create sales collateral, product documentation, and promotional campaigns specific to the metals market.
  • Product Positioning and Market Communication:
  • Define product positioning and messaging for the metals market, ensuring alignment with customer needs and competitive advantages.
  • Work with product development and engineering teams to communicate market needs, customer feedback, and potential improvements to current products.
  • Work with Marketing to develop case studies, white papers, and other marketing materials to highlight the company’s expertise and success stories in the metals industry.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create and execute marketing campaigns and strategies that resonate with metals industry customers.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, inside sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure that product offerings meet the needs of the metals market and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Work with inside sales and operations to ensure smooth product delivery and customer service, identifying areas of improvement and implementing solutions to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with the finance team to track and forecast revenue, margins, and costs associated with the metals market segment.
  • Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis:
  • Continuously monitor the competitive landscape within the metals industry, identifying emerging trends, competitive threats, and opportunities for differentiation.
  • Provide regular reports and updates on market conditions, customer behavior, and competitor activities to senior leadership.
  • Utilize data and insights to recommend changes to product strategies, pricing models, and marketing approaches to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Training and Development:
  • Educate and train territory managers on the specifics of the metals market segment and best practices for engaging with customers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, regulations, and technologies that impact the metals market, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Reporting and Performance Monitoring:
  • Effectively manage the metals team members effectiveness, expense reporting, and SFDC adoption.
  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to market growth, sales, customer engagement, and profitability in the metals sector within the SFDC CRM.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on market performance, providing actionable insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sales, marketing, or business development in the metals industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of the metals market, including trends, customer needs, regulations, and competitive landscape.
  • Proven track record of driving sales growth and market expansion within the metals industry.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes, from ideation to go-to-market.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders.
  • Experience in market research, competitive analysis, and customer segmentation.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in CRM tools (SFDC), Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and lead teams to achieve strategic objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with heavy equipment, materials processing, or manufacturing for the metals sector.
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements in the metals industry.
  • Experience with digital marketing strategies and tools to engage with target customers in the metals market.
  • Certification in project management or sales strategy (e.g., PMP, CSSP).
