Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon (MD/DO)
Position Summary
The Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care for patients with traumatic injuries and acute surgical conditions. This role includes trauma resuscitation, operative and non-operative management of critically ill and injured patients, emergency general surgery, and postoperative critical care, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary trauma team to deliver high-quality, timely, and patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide immediate evaluation and management of trauma patients in accordance with trauma protocols
- Perform trauma resuscitation and surgical intervention for life-threatening injuries
- Manage emergency general surgery cases, including abdominal, soft tissue, and thoracic conditions
- Perform operative and non-operative management of acute surgical conditions
- Provide perioperative and postoperative care, including management of surgical complications
- Participate in trauma call coverage and emergency surgical response
- Collaborate with emergency medicine, critical care, anesthesia, radiology, and subspecialty surgical teams
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary trauma rounds and care conferences
- Provide surgical consultation services throughout the hospital
- Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and trainees as applicable
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in trauma program development, quality improvement, morbidity and mortality review, and patient safety initiatives
- Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited general surgery residency program
- Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery
- Board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery
- Board certification or eligibility in Surgical Critical Care preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
- DEA registration or eligibility
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification

Work Environment
- Level I, II, or III trauma centers and acute care hospital settings
- Operating rooms, emergency departments, intensive care units, and inpatient surgical units
- Call coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures
- Manual dexterity and physical stamina for complex operative cases
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for operative and emergency care environments
Requirements
Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.
