Newcastle United have agreed a £55m fee with Brentford to sign Yoane Wissa, marking a major attacking addition for Eddie Howe’s side.
The 28-year-old DR Congo international has been Newcastle’s top target following Alexander Isak’s imminent £125m switch to Liverpool.
Wissa scored 45 goals in 137 Premier League games for Brentford but has sat out this season while pushing for a move to St James’ Park.
He publicly urged Brentford last week to let him leave, with two years remaining on his contract, and is now set for a medical at Newcastle.
The striker’s arrival provides a timely boost for Howe’s team, who have managed just two goals across their first three league matches
