Saudi Arabia is hosting the 25th Global Symposium for Regulators in Riyadh, gathering delegates from 190 countries.
The event, organized with the International Telecommunication Union, focuses on closing the $2.8 trillion digital divide.
It reflects the Kingdom’s drive under Vision 2030 to lead digital transformation and AI governance.

Acting CST governor Haytham Al-Ohali said the summit marks a milestone as the ITU turns 160.
He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s progress in boosting the digital economy, creating 380,000 tech jobs, and raising women’s participation to 35 percent.
He stressed the urgency of addressing the 2.6 billion people still unconnected worldwide.

ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin called GSR-25 a “celebration and recommitment.”
She urged regulators to embrace innovation, shift mindsets, and deepen collaboration to keep pace with digital disruption.
Her remarks underlined the importance of inclusive and sustainable digital frameworks.

The symposium also showcased Saudi Arabia’s digital leadership through exhibitions and policy workshops.
Side meetings included talks between Minister Abdullah Al-Swaha and ITU leaders on expanding entrepreneurship and AI-driven growth.
Both sides reaffirmed commitments to skills, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

The gathering will conclude with a resolution on post-digital era regulation.
Saudi Arabia’s appointment to the ITU regulation board reinforces its global role in shaping the digital future.
With 99 percent internet penetration, the Kingdom is positioning itself as a hub for innovation and inclusion.
