1. Telangana Launches Statewide Aadhaar Drive
The Telangana government has directed that 100 percent Aadhaar enrolment and biometric updates be completed for all students studying in government and private schools across the state. The decision was taken by the School Education Department to ensure students do not face difficulties during national-level entrance examinations.
2. Decision Taken at Review Meeting
The directive was issued during a review meeting chaired by Navin Nicholas, Director of the School Education Department. Officials discussed the challenges students face during identity verification at competitive exams and stressed the need for early completion of Aadhaar-related formalities at the school level.
3. Aadhaar Registration Inside School Campuses
To avoid inconvenience to students and parents, Aadhaar enrolment kits will be set up directly within school premises. This initiative eliminates the need for students to visit Aadhaar centres separately and ensures faster completion of enrolment and biometric updates in a student-friendly environment.
4. Agencies Appointed Across Districts
The state government has appointed three Aadhaar manpower agencies to carry out the process across Telangana. Each agency has been assigned responsibility for 11 districts to ensure smooth and time-bound implementation of the enrolment and biometric update drive.
5. Identification Through UDISE Portal
School headmasters have been instructed to identify students who either do not have Aadhaar cards or have pending biometric updates using the UDISE portal. These students must be prioritised and enrolled systematically to achieve complete coverage within a short time frame.
6. Parents Asked to Coordinate with Schools
The education department has advised parents to immediately contact school authorities if their child’s Aadhaar enrolment or biometric update is pending. Timely coordination between parents and schools is crucial for the successful execution of the drive.
7. Why the Aadhaar Drive Is Necessary
Officials explained that students appearing for national-level entrance examinations often face verification issues if Aadhaar biometric data is incomplete or outdated. To prevent such last-minute hurdles, the department decided to complete the process well in advance at the school level itself.
